The City Bankers League was founded by American and Canadian ex-pats in the mid-1980s ahead of the Big Bang, when there were about six teams playing in Hyde Park on unmarked pitches. The league expanded rapidly to reach 36 teams at its maximum size in the late 1990s and now has a more modest group of 20 teams post-financial crisis.
It’s a mixed, social and recreational league open to all City-based firms. The season runs from May to mid-August with games played at Regents Park and follows the WBSC Softball rules with a few minor exceptions. The league also hosts a one-day summer tournament in July.
