East Midlands Softball LeagueCo-Ed Slowpitch League
Season started 01/01/2017
The East Midlands Softball League is a small but well-established league with teams based in Nottingham and Leicester. Our league season runs from April until September. Most games are played on a Thursday evening at our main venue in Chilwell (west of Nottingham City Centre), where teams can play a game and then meet up to socialise in a local pub down the road. We have 12 teams in the league, and in the first half of the season all teams play each other once. The results from this first phase determine which of the two divisions teams play in during the second half of the season, when they play each other twice.
We hold two tournaments a year, the first being the Nottingham Firstball in April. This is a one-day warm-up tournament open to all EMSL teams and guest teams from other leagues. Our second tournament is the 'Labor Day' Tournament, which traditionally was held on the Sunday prior to America's Labor Day holiday (the first Monday in September) but is now played in July to fit in with tournament schedules in the UK. In 2010 we moved this one-day tournament to Leicester and opened it up to more teams. This was so successful that in 2011 it become a two-day tournament for 20 teams (split between C & D grade) and in 2012 it got even bigger and better, with 24 teams entering. The tournament continues to grow.
We are always looking to develop the league as well as our players, and we aspire to have several more teams in the future through development programmes being run in both Nottingham and Leicester. We are also keen to hear from any current or prospective softballers in other East Midlands areas (Derby, Loughborough, Lincoln etc) and will assist with development in those areas should we identify any interest.
