Leeds Softball AssociationCo-Ed Slowpitch League
Season started 01/01/2017
The Leeds Softball Association was set up in 1992 as a predominantly corporate league. The corporate roots remain to this day, with teams from engineering and construction to legal and accountancy firms playing alongside independent teams. Team numbers dictate the number of divisions, with two to three divisions playing on set divisional nights from Tuesday to Thursday each week. In 2012, the Leeds Softball Association has two youth teams joining us after successfully achieving funding from SportActive. In addition to this, there is a league-wide knockout Cup competition which runs on Monday evenings and there is Sunday afternoon training for those who want more! The league sends teams to national tournaments, and runs its own Comp and Rec-level tournament in June each year.
Games are played at Roundhay Park (West Avenue); evening games start between 6.15pm and 6.30pm and are five innings long, except the Cup Final, which runs to seven innings if the light lasts! All necessary equipment is provided, and the league organises a "buddy team" system to help new and experienced teams build relationships. After the games, all the teams retire to a local pub for drinks, quizzes and game post-mortems; there is a regular social calendar throughout the year, culminating in the end-of-season Ball and Awards Evening.
During the winter, indoor sessions are run in at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College, St Mark's Avenue, Leeds LS2 9BL on Wednesday evenings commencing 15th January 2015.
